Privacy Policy

What we collect

• Account: username, email address, a hashed password, and your settings.
• Verification: you verify with a one-time $1 card payment through Stripe. Stripe keeps your card details; we never see the card number. From the payment we store the name on the card, your billing city, state or region, and country, a coarse public locality (your city, or your county outside major cities) derived from your postal code, Stripe's fingerprint for the card (so one card can't quietly verify many accounts), and the results of Stripe's fraud checks.
• ID checks: if we ask you to verify with a photo ID, Stripe Identity checks your government ID and a selfie. Stripe keeps the images, date of birth and ID number. We store only your verified name and the same location details as above.
• Content: posts, comments, votes, saved posts, community memberships, reports and bot flags.
• Technical: a session cookie to keep you signed in, a theme cookie for light or dark mode, and short-lived records of failed logins and password-reset requests (with IP address) to prevent abuse.

What's public

• In anonymous mode: your username, the flag of your verified country, and what you post.
• In public mode: your verified name, your country and coarse locality, and what you post in public mode.
• Your anonymous and public profiles are shown separately. If you leave public mode, what you already posted under your name stays up on your public profile.
• If you flag an account as a bot, your public name is shown on that profile.
• Reports are private to our moderators.

Who we share data with

• Stripe (card payments and identity verification)
• GeoNames (postal code lookup; we send only the postal code and country)
• Resend (sending email)
• Vercel (hosting, and privacy-friendly analytics that don't use cookies; we remove usernames, profile IDs and searches from the URLs it records)

We don't sell personal data or use it for advertising.

Emails

We send account and security emails (confirmations, password resets, moderation notices) and, if you choose, reply notifications. Every reply email has an unsubscribe link.

Your choices

• Change your profile, mode and email preferences in Settings.
• Delete your account in Settings. Your posts and comments become [deleted], and your email and verified details are erased from our database. Moderation and audit records may be kept as needed to prevent abuse.
